PRESERVE YOUR STORAGE DEVICE
Don't forget that we are always talking about technology in this platform and not health or biology. So when we talk about storage devices, we mean devices that enable us to store data on them.
These devices are important to us because they help make our work easier and fast; they help make our data mobile when needed i.e. you can copy data from one pc to another with the help of these storage devices.
Examples of storage devices are:
Flash drives, external hard drive, even your system hard disk, floppy disk, CD or DVD, SD card (memory card).
How to preserve storage devices:
Considering the storage deives listed in the examples above, I will be listing some steps to take to preserve these devices.
1. Try as much as possible not to allow your storage devices to fall to the ground. The possibility that the storage device will get spoilt is 90%. The is mostly the case for Hard disks and external hard drives.
2. Copying files to a storage devices that has been infected with virus can make the device malfunction.
3. Generally, using your storage device on a system infected with virus can run-down your storage device; over-spinning, over-clocking, crash.
4. Your storage should be kept away from dust, heat, humidity, water. These can cause your device to loose data, not read-well, or jam electrically.
5. Don't keep your storage devices under vibration.
6. Don't keep your mobile phones very close to your storage device esp. keeping it on top of your device or vice-versa. Eletromagnetic interference from your mobile phone can kill your storage device esp. your external hard drive.
